On May 24th, Prof. Wu Kongming, member of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China and President of CAAS, met with H.E. Dr. Nani, Hendiarti, Deputy Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs, Republic of Indonesia. The two sides made exchanges on China-Indonesia agricultural technological cooperation. Prof. Sun Tan, Vice President of CAAS attended the meeting.

Prof. Wu Kongming stated that, at the meeting of H.E. Mr. Wang Zhigang, Minister of Science and Technology of China and H.E. Mr. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs of Indonesia last April, the two Ministers agreed on having further practical cooperation on agricultural technologies and other areas, which showed that agricultural technological cooperation is high on the agenda of both governments. Based on a sound cooperation foundation, CAAS and its Indonesian partners witnessed fruitful results made in areas such as crop breeding, prevention and control of animal epidemics and postgraduate education. Prof. Wu Kongming suggested that in future, the two sides might strengthen cooperation in biology breeding, animal vaccines, climate-smart agriculture, capacity building and other areas so as to cooperatively tackle common challenges facing food security, biosafety and climate changes and make new contribution to agricultural development and agro-products trade both in China and Indonesia.

Dr. Hendiarti thought highly of the achievements that CAAS has made in agricultural scientific research, and welcomed the suggestions put forward by Prof. Wu Kongming. She stated that agricultural science and technology is one of the cooperation priorities of China and Indonesia. She also hoped to boost CAAS-Indonesia cooperation in rice, horticulture and other areas by building joint platforms and enhancing postgraduate education to serve for agricultural development in the two countries.

After the meeting, Dr. Hendiarti and her delegation paid a visit to the National Crop Gene Bank of China. Director Generals of Department of International Cooperation, Institute of Crop Sciences, and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of CAAS attended the meeting.
